ROCHESTER SUN

News: Welcome Back, RGers... Posted: Groovemaster @ Thu Dec 21, 2006 10:36 pm
You never realize how many people regularly visit this site until you take it down for a number of hours. Thanks for the e-mails and concerned calls.

As you see, rochestergroove.com is back up & running better than ever. There's quite a few changes besides the obvious new look. BIG thanks to he who calls himself Carini for doing the vast majority of work on all of these new features. Drop him a message of thanks, buy him a beer, give him a massage (lookin' at you, FT) - just make sure you thank him for his efforts.

Now, bear with me as I explain the major changes:

1 - OUR SPONSORS. Diginex, a great local tech company located in the High Falls district that has generously donated the 100Mb pipe we're now connected to deserves great thanks. They do everything IP-related and do it well. J&N Computer Services, located in Fairport generously donated the new 1U rackmount server that powers this new site & with that comes the storage and processing power to do some of the cool things we're now doing. PLEASE visit both sponsors sites through the links at the top of the page & the best way you can thank them is to purchase your IT needs from them & help spread the word. If you ever need a computer built, a site hosted, or have more professional technical needs these are two local & talented companies that everyone in Rochester should support. I say this not simply because they contribute to the site, but because I've been doing business with them for years & I've never been disappointed with products or services.

2 - RG RADIO. I've tried this before on our old server/bandwidth but with the new space & speed we're going to be offering some great & dependable radio streams. My New Year's resolution is to keep this going with great content (with a focus on local performers). And it has visuals if you just want to zone out to RG Radio.

3 - DOWNLOADS. Just check out the new format. As we add new shows (yes we're going to get agressive about getting more local shows up there) and rebuild the old archives we'll be implementing the ability to stream the show as well as download. Stay tuned for this feature.

4 - THE BANDS. Bands will now have their OWN, manageable section of the site to themselves. Check "The Bands" page for instructions to begin your own RG profile. As this grows it'll be a great place to go to get profiles, pictures, show dates & other info about upstate NY bands.

5 - MAILING LIST. This might still be going through 'fine tuning' when we launch this site, but we will be picking back up the weekly RG e-mail blast. The nice part is if you're already registered with the site your e-mail will already be on this list (if included in your profile).

6 - PHOTO GALLERY. A separate section very similar to the Inner Loop board dedicated to photos. We encourage everyone to share, share, share.

Besides that we have the calendar more visible & included on every page; A news section on the front page & other minor upgrades. All in all we hope this will be a more collaborative & enjoyable experience for all. Happy Holidays & Enjoy!
